About our company
Home News Enterprises, based in Columbus, Indiana, traces its origin to the inception of The Columbus Republican in Columbus, Ind., founded in 1872 by Isaac T. Brown. On Nov. 12, 1877, The Columbus Republican went from a weekly paper to the Daily Evening Republican.
Isaac T. Brown was eventually joined by his father, Isaac M. Brown, who became the editor of the paper. Isaac T. Brown was the sole owner until he was joined by his son, Raymond, in 1916. Upon the death of Isaac T. Brown in 1917, Raymond Brown assumed full ownership of the business.
Raymond Brown formed a partnership with his wife Anna, in 1942, and operated in this form until 1963, when a family partnership was formed consisting of Raymond and Anna Brown and their adult children, Robert N. Brown, Elizabeth B. Marshall and Dr. Richard Brown.
In May 1994, the company changed to a limited liability company thus carrying the LLC designation in the official company name. Before Raymond Brown's death, the interests of Raymond and Anna Brown had been passed to Robert N. Brown, who in 1946, became the fourth generation active in the management and who was appointed managing partner and publisher in 1964 upon the death of his father. Robert Brown then started the Daily Journal in 1963 to expand his newspaper company.
In 1998, Jeffrey N. Brown was appointed president of Home News, becoming the fifth generation active in the management. Jeff Brown currently is president of the prestigious Inland Press Association.
Home News Enterprises began expanding beyond newspapers at the turn of the new century, launching target market publications such as real estate and parenting magazines and news and advertising Web sites. South Magazine became the company's most significant lifestyle magazine investment in 2005.
Home News Enterprises, which employees about 500 people, also has newspaper, commercial printing and special publication operations in Greenfield, Monticello and Nashville.

Chuck Wells is publisher of the Daily Journal Newspaper.
Editor Sherri Cullison grew up in Indianapolis, earned her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, and moved to New York City to spend half a decade as a big-city girl. Cullison’s love of the American Midwest, however, eventually put her back behind the wheel of a U-Haul truck. She first landed in Columbus, Ohio, where she managed a copywriting department for an advertising agency, before heading back to Indy, the only city she has ever truly considered home. Outside of all that packing and unpacking, Cullison has found time to author two books, and she has worked as the editor of INtake, a weekly publication for the Indianapolis Star. Cullison also served as a senior editor for Indianapolis Monthly. An original member of the local roller derby league, The Naptown Roller Girls, Cullison skates, rides vintage bikes, and regularly combs antique malls for kicks.
Christina Cosner, a Johnson County native, joined the Daily Journal in 1995 as an Advertising Account Representative. Christina graduated from Whiteland High School in 1987 and later earned a bachelor's degree in marketing and merchandising from Indiana University in 1991. Before joining the Daily Journal, she was store manager of Limited Express in Indianapolis for three years. She also was store manager for Marjax Sporting Goods in Bloomington. As Senior Account Representative, she was involved in new account acquisition and sales training. She also handled many of the newspaper's top advertising accounts. In March of 2005 Christina was promoted to Senior Advertising Account Executive over South Magazine, a new lifestyle publication, and other print media products -- including Johnson County Parent Magazine and Prime Time. Christina was recently named ad director over the Daily Journal and South Magazine. Cosner has been involved in several local community groups and served on committees with the Greater Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, the Builder's Association of Greater Indianapolis, the Old Towne Greenwood Merchants Association, United Way of Johnson County, March of Dimes and Baxter YMCA. Christina lives in Franklin with daughter, Kenna, and fiancé Dennis Drake.
Senior designer Amanda Waltz graduated from Franklin College in 2004, and shortly thereafter joined the graphic design team at Home News Enterprises, working first at the Johnson County Daily Journal, then at the Columbus Republic. In 2009, Amanda put her talents to work on Bartholomew County’s She magazine before beginning with the NORTH magazine team. In her free time, Amanda enjoys spending time with family and friends, attending concerts, and playing with her 11-year-old beagle-Dalmatian mix, Scooter. She enjoys photography and openly admits to being obsessed with the country music band Rascal Flatts and the TV game show ”The Price is Right.”
Jessica Lane joined the NORTH staff in October. She previously worked in Michigan as an account executive for a fashion, lifestyle and entertainment magazine. She first found her way into sales while helping to produce reality TV shows in Los Angeles, including "Shear Genius," "Biggest Loser" and "America's Got Talent." She graduated from Columbia College of Chicago with a degree in journalism and lives in Fishers with her American bulldogs, Buddy and Deli.
