Hearthside Suppers at Conner Prairie

Ever wondered what people ate for dinner in the early 1800s? And how it was prepared? Learn firsthand, weekends through March 25, when you and your family join in the preparation of a candlelight feast served inside the historic Conner House. Recipes are straight from the pages of a 19th-century cookbook. Prepare and eat a 19th-century meal by candlelight, tour the historic 1823 Conner House, learn about life in 19th-century Indiana from costumed hosts and enjoy entertainment in the parlor. Reservations are required for this event, which is recommended for ages 10 and older, and costs $60 per person, or $55 for members. Purchase Hearthside Suppers gift certificates and surprise someone with a truly unique experience. For more information about attending, call 317-776-6006 or 800-966-1836 or e-mail info@connerprairie.org. January 6 through March 25, 6 to 9 p.m.

    We Got Game

Most Sunday afternoons at my parents’ home have always been reserved for football. If my family needs to get together to celebrate a birthday … and it’s a Sunday … and there’s a football game on … that birthday celebration is going to be scheduled around the football game. Or it’s going to coincide with it, in which case we’re all going to sit and watch the game together. There are no questions asked about this routine—even if the Indianapolis Colts are losing … a lot. . . .
